How does StatTools compute autocorrelation? I tried creating a lagged copy of the time series myself, and computing correlation with Excel's COREL( ) function, but that gave different answers.
Autocorrelation is computed differently, as you discovered. You can find the correlation formula in this page from the US National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), and the autocorrelation formula in this page from NIST's Engineering Statistics Handbook.
