HomeTroubleshooting@RISK for Excel: Other Issues"Cannot run the macro 'AdvTools5.xla!TBGoalSeekMain'."

8.36. "Cannot run the macro 'AdvTools5.xla!TBGoalSeekMain'."

Applies to:
@RISK for Excel 5.x

Problem:
When I try to run Goal Seek or another advanced analysis, I get this error message:

An error has occurred in @RISK for Excel.

Cannot run the macro 'AdvTools5.xla!TBGoalSeekMain'. The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled.

Response:
This is actually an Excel problem. Either you have some corrupted .EXD-type files, or your RefEdit control has become corrupted somehow. More about the problem of corrupted .EXD files can be found in Lessan Vaezi's Delete EXD files to fix "Object library invalid" error, although the symptom mentioned there is different.

To fix the problem:

  1. Close Excel.
  2. Do a search on your system for any files whose names end in .EXD and delete them. We have confirmation from multiple Office 2010 users that this solution cleared the above error message for them.
  3. Try your advanced analysis in @RISK again. If it works, you can skip the rest of this procedure.
  4. If you still have the problem, the RefEdit control in Excel is the culprit. Please proceed as in "The macro 'AdvTools5.xla!TBSenseMain' cannot be found."
