2.18. CmdBarData Registry Key

Summary:
A particular key in the Excel Options section of the Windows system registry sometimes grows very long. Excel gets confused, and when you try to run Palisade software you get mysterious run-time error messages. Deleting this key may cure the problem and let Excel interface successfully with Palisade software and other add-ins.

Procedure:

  1. Make sure that Excel is not running.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, then Run. Enter the command REGEDIT and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office in the left-hand pane.
  4. Within the Office key, double-click to open the subkey 14.0, 12.0, 11.0, 10.0, or 9.0 depending on your version of Excel.
  5. Within that numbered key, double-click on Excel, then on Options.
  6. Now look at the right-hand pane. Find CmdBarData, right-click on it, and select Delete. When you get the confirming prompt, answer Yes.
  7. Close the Registry Editor with File » Exit.
